Is BetMGM legal in Ontario?

Yes. BetMGM is completely legal to play in the province. It is regulated and overseen by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

In accordance with AGCO rules, you must be over the age of 19 to place a wager on BetMGM Sportsbook. You must also be inside the provincial borders – it is not possible to bet from Manitoba, Quebec, or any other province. Expect to verify both your name and your location when you log into BetMGM.

Types of bets on BetMGM

There are many different types of wagers that BetMGM Sportsbook has available to bettors in the province. Most of them are common to other sportsbook apps, but it’s a good idea to know what options you have, anyway.

• Point spread – BetMGM estimates the eventual margin of victory on a game or match. You, the Ontario bettor, chooses whether the favourite will win by a larger margin, or the underdog will lose by a smaller margin or win the game outright.
• Moneyline – You bet that one team or player will prevail over the other in an upcoming match. Depending on the skill level of the teams, you receive varying payouts for a correct selection.
• Totals – BetMGM estimates the total number of points that the two teams in a game will combine to score, and you bet whether the actual total will be higher or lower. Because of the way this bet works, it’s often called the over/under.
• Propositions – Propositions, or prop bets, are usually yes/no questions about events within a game that don’t determine its outcome directly. Partial game results and potential statistical achievements are common fodder for this type of wager.
• Futures – Futures are wagers on the cumulative outcome of several matches or games. Usually, they are questions about entire seasons of play, end-of-season awards, or the final disposition of a tournament.
• Parlays – Several bets are combined into a single amalgamated wager. The catch is that all of the constituent parts of the wagers (called “legs”) must prove to be predicted accurately in order for the bet to pay off. So, parlays come with both high risks and high rewards.
• Live betting – Live bets are proposition wagers that become available once a game is underway. They are short-term and quick-hit bets, so you have to be ready to move quickly on them. They are often related to small events, like the type of play that the next play will be.

What we like about BetMGM

There are many things to like about BetMGM Sportsbook. In fact, there are probably too many to name in a succinct manner. However, three elements stick out above the rest when you visit BetMGM:

In addition to the ability to cash out a bet early if it meets certain conditions, you may also be able to add to an open wager, swap out some of the parts of the bet, or even augment your bet amount to make it a bigger wager. • Easy-Parlay Creator – Building out a multi-legged parlay is not easy, particularly when you are moving from one sport to another in order to do it. BetMGM’s Easy-Parlay Creator offers single-click switching between both types of wagers and sports and makes a parlay a much less painful process.
• Betting market diversity – We’ve already talked about the incredible list of sports available for betting on BetMGM Ontario, but it bears another mention here. We have not seen many other opportunities for wagering on handball, water polo, or – amazingly – Gaelic sports.

Areas of improvement for BetMGM

No sportsbook is without flaws – even the top of the line like BetMGM Sportsbook. Here are a few areas where the app could stand to do some work:

• App speed – Offering so many different options for betting comes (apparently) at the cost of app speed. BetMGM Ontario isn’t painfully slow, but if you’re used to other apps in the province and their usual speed, you’re going to notice the slowdown.
• Customer service – Customer service is critical for a sportsbook because of the fact that money is on the line, and BetMGM Ontario’s customer service approach could use some work. It’s not that you cannot get in touch with any help – it’s just that BetMGM puts you through the paces with its automated FAQs before attempting to connect you with an actual person to help. When your money is involved, you don’t want to have to sift through multiple screens in search of an answer.
