Hunter Brzustewicz is joining the Calgary Wranglers on an amateur tryout

The Kitchener Rangers were swept by the London Knights in the second round of the OHL playoffs. With the sweep, Calgary Flames prospect Hunter Brzustewicz’s OHL season came to a close. For the budding defensive superstar, when one door closes, another opens.

His time as a Vancouver Canucks prospect lasted less than a full year as he was traded to Calgary. His time in the OHL might just be coming to a close too, as he’s now joining the Calgary Wranglers on an amateur tryout for the AHL playoffs.

Hunter season is here

Brzustewicz’s play continued to rise over the course of the 2023–24 season. In 67 games, he posted 13 goals and a whopping 79 assists for 92 points as a 19-year-old. In the playoffs, he had one goal and eight assists in 10 games.

With the Wranglers hoping to build on their playoff run from last year, adding Brzustewicz in the backend isn’t necessarily a guarantee for game rosters, but he does give them more options to choose from. Regardless of how or if he’s played at all, getting to spend time with the AHL club is the next reward for him in his stellar season.

It isn’t time to clean out the equipment bags yet for Brzustewicz, he still has more hockey to play.
