All situations Corsi

  • The game was fairly even and pedestrian for most of the first two periods. Nothing special and no major wins in momentum.
  • The Flames were listless to start the third period, but after the Coyotes scored their second goal, Calgary went for the two-quick-goals-for-minimal-effort approach. Arizona controlled the momentum both before and after Calgary’s two goals.
  • The overtime power play was obviously the biggest difference-maker here as Calgary had all the shot attempts and had the Coyotes on their heels to end the game.
  • Nothing stood out for Calgary as particularly impressive on offence, but their defence was sloppy as they gave up more scoring opportunities than they generated.
  • Calgary’s two goals coming from in close were nice as Blake Coleman had a net-front tap-in, feeding off a behind-the-goal-line pass from Rasmus Andersson, while Nazem Kadri driving to the net for a tap-in was also a sight to see.

5v5 Corsi

  • A big fraction of the game was not played at 5v5, but in the instances that were, the Coyotes controlled more of the play.
  • The biggest 5v5 push from both teams came in the third period, with that entire change of pace from Arizona coming after they let Calgary tie the game up.
  • Again, not much of the game was played at 5v5, and a consequence of that is that the shot locations look pretty barren. Calgary had just 25 shot attempts at 5v5 while Arizona had 37.
