NHL Fantasy: Five players to add for a short Week 12

Week 12 on the fantasy hockey calendar starts on Christmas day, and the NHL doesn’t host any games until Wednesday December 27. That means the schedule for Week 12 is a bit wonky; zero teams play four games, 23 teams have three games, four teams have two games, and one team has just a single game. Getting the maximum number of man games will be critical in this week.

Here are five players worth adding for Week 12.

Tyler Seguin – DAL – 38% rostered

Tyler Seguin is having a good run lately on the wing of the Dallas Stars’ second line. He’s also on the second power play unit which has been decently effective of late. Seguin is riding a five game point streak, over which he’s taken seven shots on goal, and has seen his ice time increase significantly. He’s eclipsed the 18 minute mark in three straight, and the 17 minute mark in six of his last seven. Dallas has the most favourable schedule in Week 12 playing one game against the St. Louis Blues and two against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Cole Perfetti – WPG – 25% rostered

Cole Perfetti has slowed down since a very solid stretch earlier in the year, but looks to be picking up steam once again. He’s on the second line and second power play unit, and is on a three game point streak. Perfetti is also a good bet for leagues that count shots on goal; he’s had at least one shot on goal in 11 straight games with 17 shots over this span. The Winnipeg Jets have the second best schedule next week with one game against the Blackhawks and two against the Minnesota Wild.

Jonathan Drouin – COL – 5% rostered

Has Jonathan Drouin finally arrived for the Colorado Avalanche? He’s not playing next to Nathan MacKinnon, but Drouin is heating up on the Avs’ third line and lethal top power play unit. He has put up six points over a five game point streak, and has two games with over 18 minutes in this period. He also has nine straight games with a shot on goal with 17 over this span, and four straight games with a power play point. Colorado has a good schedule in Week 12 with games against the Arizona Coyotes, Blues, and San Jose Sharks.

Ryan McLeod – EDM – 0% rostered

Out of all the players on this list, there is a near 100% chance that Ryan McLeod is available in your league. This is a pure streamer option that you should be prepared to cut as soon as his deployment changes, but McLeod is reaping the rewards of his line placement right now. Currently skating on the Edmonton Oilers’ second line next to the elite Leon Draisaitl, McLeod has put up back-to-back multi-point games with three goals over this span. For a team that can’t afford to have much more go wrong for them, it makes zero sense to change this line combination until it stops working. This is the best time to capitalize on a talented young Oilers forward almost definitely available on the waiver wire. As well, Edmonton has a solid schedule next week with games against the Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Ducks.

Connor Timmins – TOR – 4% rostered

This is a bit of an off-the-board pick, but Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Connor Timmins is worth monitoring at the very least. He’s currently quarterbacking the second power play unit, and saw a five game point streak come to an end as the Leafs’ suffered two big losses to the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres. However, in these two games he has 3:31 and 2:19 TOI on the power play respectively, and is posting very strong underlying numbers overall with many more chances for than against. Timmins is a very talented player and might be starting to find his groove with the Leafs. If he can continue providing power play value, he’ll be worth an add, at least in the short term. Toronto’s schedule next week has them facing the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Carolina Hurricanes.
