Calgary Flames

Elias Lindholm participated in a horse carting race with Calle Jarnkrok and Nicklas Backstrom

This past weekend, Calgary Flames centre Elias Lindholm took to the horseracing track with fellow NHLers Calle Jarnkrok and Nicklas Backstrom in the NHL Trotting Challenge 2023. They participated in a harness racing event with Gävletravet, a trotting track in Sweden known as “Sweden’s fastest track.”

Hockey players turned horse racers

The three Swedish NHL stars all grew up in the city of Galve—where the track is located—and normally head home for the offseason.

Jarnkrok won the race with horse number one, Lindholm finished second with horse number three, and Backstrom finished third with horse number two. Finding a sportsbook for NHLers horse racing in Sweden may be a tough ask but you can still find plenty of betting apps available in Canada.

Enjoying his summer

The biggest topic of conversation surrounding Lindholm right now is his future with the Flames, as his contract is now in its final year and set to expire on July 1, 2024. It looks like Lindholm is enjoying his offseason after a tough year, mulling over his options at home. At the end of the day, it’s great to see Lindholm back enjoying his hometown and taking a well deserved break away from hockey.
