NHL Fantasy: Best adds for Week 10

Week 10 on the fantasy hockey calendar features 10 teams that play four games, 18 teams that play three games, and four teams that play two games. Some teams have significantly weaker schedules than others, and have several key players that could be very valuable for the upcoming week.

Here are five players worth adding for Week 10.

Nick Schmaltz – ARI – 34% rostered

Nick Schmaltz is having a very productive year with the suddenly-playoff-calibre Arizona Coyotes. With 20 points in 25 games, 10 of which have come on the power play, Schmaltz is second in scoring on the team behind only Clayton Keller. He’s on the top line, top power play, second penalty kill, and is one of the most trusted and relied-on players on the team. He is first in average ice time among forwards, second among skaters overall. It’s wild that Schmaltz is only 34% owned. The Coyotes have a very favourable schedule with four games against the Sabres, Penguins, Sharks, and Sabres again.

Ross Colton – COL – 21% rostered

The Colorado Avalanche have mediocre depth this season, but Ross Colton has found a home in their top-six. Currently centring the second line with Mikko Rantanen and Miles Wood on his wings and on the first power play unit, Colton is receiving elite deployment that cannot be ignored. The Avalanche play four games this week against the Flames, Sabres, Jets, and Sharks, three of which should be schedule wins.

Blake Coleman – CGY – 21% rostered

The Calgary Flames aren’t the highest-scoring team in the league by any means, but they’re currently in the toughest stretch of their season and are starting to find their legs under new coach Ryan Huska. Coleman leads the team in goals, is playing with an elite two-way force in Mikael Backlund, and has Jonathan Huberdeau on the other wing. He’ll chip in with lots of peripheral stat coverage as well, and is a solid add for this week. The Flames play four games against the Avalanche, Golden Knights, Wild, and Lightning.

Robby Fabbri – DET – 5% rostered

Robby Fabbri should be a must-add player. He’s currently back after missing 15 games at the start of the season, and is lining up on the Wings’ top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond as well as the first power play unit. Fabbri has 13 points in 13 games, including eight points in his last five games. He’s clicking with the big guns in Detroit. The Red Wings play four games this week against the Stars, Blues, Hurricanes, and Flyers.

Matt Dumba – ARI – 1% rostered

Finally, the Coyotes are down their power play quarterback as Sean Durzi is day-to-day with an injury. In his place, Matt Dumba has slid in on the top power play unit. This will probably not last, but for the time being, Dumba is worth a look if you’re really in dire straits on the blueline. He’s quarterbacked power plays before and even without points on the board, he will chip in well with a good number of shots, hits, and blocks.

Going for coverage

With many teams facing heavy schedules, there’s a lot of value to be added just by finding the right players to target both quality and quantity.
