Redesigning Latvia’s 2022 Olympic Hockey Jerseys

As the 2022 Olympics near closer, the latest news was the announcement that the NHL and NHLPA would not participate in the 2022 Olympic games. It’s disappointing to say the least, but the reality of the situation the NHL faces makes it the only option.

However, we are back once again this week with part four of our 2022 Olympic hockey jersey redesign series. This week, we are featuring one of the teams that are less affected by the NHL’s decision to pull out of the Games, as the country of Latvia only has a very select few current day NHLers.

So far we’ve redesigned, Team Canada, USA, and The ROC.

Team Latvia Jerseys

Here’s the full set of our two Team Latvia jersey concepts. You can click on every image to see the full size. Complete details on the design are shared below!

For Team Latvia, we went with a fairly simple design which took inspiration from a variety of their past jerseys. The crest of the Latvian National Hockey Team makes up the primary logo on the chest.

Latvia National Hockey Logo

We did make a minor adjustment to this crest by adding a section for the word “Latvija” itself which is present on almost all of Latvia’s national hockey jerseys. We chose to use the typography for this that was used in their jerseys back in 2002, where they had their Olympic-best record of 2–1–1.

For the striping of this design we also decided to go with a simple straight line on the primary jersey which was inspired by Latvia’s national flag.

This set of jerseys pays tribute to Latvia’s well established identity in international hockey while making some adjustments to take their jerseys to the next level. The jerseys provide a clean and fresh look that connects the past with the present. Latvia would definitely stand out with this jersey set.

More jersey concepts to come

Throughout the next few weeks we will be sharing jersey designs for every other 2022 Olympic qualifying hockey team. Stay tuned for what’s next.
