International best-on-best hockey is finally coming back this year. Well, kind of. Sure, it doesn’t include all the countries, but the 4 Nations Face-Off will still showcase some of the best hockey players on the planet. Players are currently being scouted to determine if they will earn a spot on their respective country’s roster.
One Flame to keep an eye on is MacKenzie Weegar, who once again has impressed on the Flames backend. While low expectations were attached to the Flames when the season started, it’s clear Weegar had high expectations for himself and his on-ice play. That begs the question, will Weegar represent Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off? We asked, you answered.

Do readers think Weegar makes the roster?
We presented the below poll on Twitter/X to our readers.
Will Weegar make the 4 Nations roster?
| Yes | 70.2% |
| No | 29.8% |
Votes for Weegar to make the roster
It looks like most fans believe that Weegar should be named to Team Canada, and it makes sense why. Weegar has been the most reliable Flames defenceman on both ends of the ice. He finds a way to produce for the team consistently but also is a steady defender in his own zone. He is just behind Rasmus Andersson in average TOI per game with 23:37, and he is currently on the Flames’ top power play unit. Weegar is clearly a very important player for the Flames, and as a result, it may just land him a spot on the Canadian team.
Votes for Weegar to not make the roster
Weegar has been great for the Flames, however, it’s not guaranteed that he will make this team, not because of his play, but just because there are too many Canadian defencemen to choose from—this is Canada’s sport after all.
Defencemen who are all competing for roster spots include Cale Makar, Evan Bouchard, Noah Dobson, Josh Morrisey, Devon Toews, Shea Theodore, Alex Pietrangelo, and Morgan Rielly. I would personally put Weegar over maybe five of these players, but it really depends on what Don Sweeney is looking for. If I were to make a guess, I think Weegar makes the team, but it will be interesting to see if that actually ends up being the case.
Flames may have some representation
On the backend, Weegar is not the only Flame that may represent their county in this tournament, as it is likely that Andersson puts on the Sweden jersey. Although the Flames season may not end with a run in the playoffs, it would be nice to see some Flames get represented on the international stage.
