The Calgary Flames have finally inked Cole Schwindt to a contract.
The team has signed the former Florida Panthers’ forward to a one-year, two-way contract worth 800k at the NHL level.
“Show me” deal
This deal is a bit of an interesting one for a player once touted as a future NHLer when he was acquired as part of the Jonathan Huberdeau trade. However, since being acquired, Schwindt has been a fine AHLer and a less fine NHLer in the minimal games he has played.
This is probably his last shot with the organization to show that he is more than just a depth body. The Flames were very high on him when they acquired him, but he has been passed in the depth chart by younger players who seem hungrier for the NHL than he has been.
Schwindt has been a decent two-way player, plus he plays centre—which is normally a bonus—but he has not really done enough to warrant more than what he earned on this deal. This is going to be a big year for the forward to show what he is, or else he’ll be looking for greener pastures next year.
