Theo Stockselius is a 6’3″, 196-lb centre who spent the 2025–26 season split between Djurgardens IF’s senior club in the SHL and their U20 squad in the J20 Nationell. In May, the Flames signed Stockselius to a three-year entry-level contract.

Stockselius’ playing history
At the club level, Stockselius has played exclusively within the Djurgardens IF organization over the last three seasons. However, he has participated in four different leagues.
In 2023–24, Stockselius started the season in the J18 Region, which is the starting tier for Sweden’s top U18 teams. Because his team finished in the top five of their division, they qualified for the J18 Nationell. Stockselius was excellent in both leagues, finishing well above a point per game each time.
During the 2024–25 season, Stockselius primarily played in the J20 Nationell despite only being 17 years old. He put up 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points in 40 games during the regular season. He finished third on his team in scoring, behind Viggo Bjorck and Wilson Bjorck. But Stockselius actually led his team in playoff points with 16 points in nine games.
Most recently, Stockselius split the 2025–26 campaign between the J20 Nationell and the SHL. Even though he missed three months midseason due to a skate cut injury, he went on to star in the J20 postseason with 20 points in 11 playoff games. Additionally, he was named Playoff MVP after Djurgardens captured their second straight championship.
Stockselius’ strengths
Excellent playmaking ability
Stockselius is an incredibly crafty playmaker who excels at creating high-danger scoring opportunities. He can manipulate defenders and consistently make successful passes to his teammates. His playmaking ability is statistically backed by data from Neutral Zone, who tracked Stockselius’ play when he was playing in the J20 Nationell during the 2024–25 season. The data showed that Stockselius completed 88% of his passes. It also suggested that Stockselius almost always had one pass every single game that led directly to a grade “A” scoring opportunity for his team.
Terrific finishing and puck retrieval
Stockselius is also a lethal finisher with strong puck recovery habits. The data from Neutral Zone revealed that Stockselius converted on 28% of the grade “A” scoring opportunities he generated. The data also showed that Stockselius retrieved an average of 1.93 loose pucks per game after shots. The fact that he is a good finisher while simultaneously being able to read plays in the defensive zone underscores his well-rounded, two-way utility.
Stockselius’ weaknesses
Low physical assertiveness
Despite possessing a massive 6’3″ frame, Stockselius is not overly physical. According to the data from Neutral Zone, he won just 50% of his 50/50 puck battles. Additionally, he averaged just 0.25 hard body checks per game. To reach his full potential, he must be able to leverage his size to outmuscle opponents consistently.
Poor face-off skills and high turnover ratio
Stockselius also needs to work on his face-off proficiency and puck security. The data from Neutral Zone claimed that he won just 46% of his face-offs and averaged four giveaways per game. If he wants to make it as a centre at the professional level, Stockselius must win more face-offs and give the puck away less often.
Stockselius’ next steps
Flames Director of Player Development Ray Edwards confirmed that Stockselius will be staying with Djurgardens for the 2026–27 season. Given his previous success at the J20 level, Stockselius will likely receive a lot more playing time at the SHL level next season.
Stockselius’ next step is establishing himself as a reliable centre trusted by his coaches in all situations. While his playmaking upside is evident, improving on some of the weaknesses discussed earlier, such as physicality, face-offs, and giveaways, will be crucial if he wants to carve out a consistent role for himself in the SHL.

Stockselius is still very young. He just turned 19 on July 24. So, that means that we probably won’t see him at the NHL level for a while. But that also means that he still has plenty of time to figure things out. After making the transition to North America, he will likely spend a significant amount of time at the AHL level before making his NHL debut.
