Breaking: The Calgary Flames will officially pick ninth overall at the 2024 NHL Draft

With the conclusion of the 2024 NHL draft lottery, it’s now been confirmed that the Calgary Flames will be picking ninth overall in the first round of the draft. It will be just the third time the franchise has picked ninth since moving to Calgary in 1980. The organization selected Brent Krahn in 2000 and Dion Phaneuf in 2003.

Some intriguing names will be available

In the Win Column’s 2024 consolidated NHL draft rankings, defenceman Zeev Buium was ranked ninth overall. In Bob McKenzie’s updated rankings from earlier today, he had Konsta Helenius in that spot. Regardless of whose name is called in June, the Flames should have multiple intriguing and high-end options to pick from at ninth.

Bolstering the prospect pool

Whoever it is who makes the walk to the stage and dons the Flaming C later this summer, they’re sure to become the organization’s top prospect right away. The first round of the NHL draft is slated to go down on Friday, June 28 in Vegas.
