The day after the Calgary Flames moved another major piece in Noah Hanifin, they came out and had a monster effort against the Tampa Bay Lightning by winning the game by a score of 6–3, it is their first win in Amalie Arena since January 11, 2018, where they beat the Lightning by a score of 5–1.
The Flames continue to roll
Even after all the moves that have been made by General Manager Craig Conroy, the Flames continue to fight as they have now won six of their last seven games—a good way to begin the road trip.
Yegor Sharongovich was the talk of this one as he netted two goals along with two primary assists that took him up to 25 goals on the season, his first year in Calgary continues to be a success. Along with Sharongovich, his linemates tonight, Jonathan Huberdeau and Matt Coronato also had good showings as both of them picked up assists and Huberdeau was very very noticeable as he was making plays all night, it was a vintage Huberdeau performance.
The Blake Coleman, Mikael Backlund, and Andrew Mangiapane line also continued to dominate as both Coleman and Mangiapane notched a goal each and Jakob Pelletier scored his first of the season after a nice net drive by Andrei Kuzmenko.
The depleted blue line held it together
No Hanifin, no Chris Tanev, no problem. The blue line was solid tonight, Oliver Kylington and Brayden Pachal took on a larger workload and didn’t look out of place, Joel Hanley had a decent first game in Calgary colours and MacKenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson continued to hold down the fort as the team’s top pair.
There are going to be a lot of questions regarding the Flames blue line moving forward and who will play where, but this last stretch of games will be a good opportunity to see what the Flames have and who can handle what workload, tonight though, was a good first game without their second pair.
