The Calgary Flames returned back to the Saddledome after an average road trip that saw them go .500 over four games, capped off with a gutting defeat against the Chicago Blackhawks. Calgary had a chance to get back into the win column against the Ottawa Senators with a quick pitstop at home, celebrating both Pride Night and Mikael Backlund tying Mark Giordano for second-most games played in franchise history.

Game events

  • Both teams posted a lot of shots but were fairly even. The Flames were a bit more physical, or rather, the Senators were hardly physical at all with only 10 hits.

  • Four goals in the third period turned the tide of the game as it powered the Flames to victory.
  • Ottawa had three separate one-goal leads but the Flames responded each time.

All situations Corsi

  • The Flames were the better team for most of the game in terms of shot pressure. Ottawa got close every now and then, but Calgary maintained good control.
  • The Flames had mixed results in terms of shot locations as their shots came from all over the offensive zone. Generating more shots from in close is still something they have to work on.
  • Ottawa had similar outputs as the Flames, with not too many shots from in close either and a spread out offensive effort.

5v5 Corsi

  • A similar story at 5v5 here. Five out of six Flames goals were scored at 5v5 for a strong even strength showing.
  • Ottawa’s burst at the end of the first period was the biggest momentum swing but they couldn’t carry that into the second period.
  • The Flames had a spread out goal scoring effort with goals coming from different locations, but they got most of their goals from closer-range shots as nothing was fruitful from afar.
  • Ottawa had a goal come from right in the crease with seconds remaining.
