NHL Fantasy: Best players to add for Week 14 January 8, 2023

The NHL will hit the halfway mark soon, and chances are things are starting to solidify in your fantasy leagues just as they are in the NHL standings. Here are some of the best adds to make for Week 14.

1. Thomas Harley – D – DAL

Power play quarterbacks are not easy to find outside of the draft. The Dallas Stars are going to be without elite defenseman Miro Heiskanen for a while (currently listed as week-to-week) and will promote their PP2 quarterback to run their top unit. Enter: Thomas Harley. He’s put up seven points in his last 10 games, fired 21 shots on goal over that period, and has gained the trust of the Dallas coaching staff. With over 24 minutes in their last game against the Colorado Avalanche. Harley is 25% owned in Yahoo leagues right now, and Dallas plays four games next week against weak opponents.

2. Ryan McLeod – LW – EDM

We talked about Ryan McLeod when he was first put on a line with Leon Draisaitl, and he’s still worth a streaming option. The Edmonton Oilers are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, and their second line is a big reason why. McLeod has eight points in his last six games, and that’s without significant time on the power play. It’s likely he gets a shot on the second unit so now is the time to add McLeod, who is currently 3% owned. The Oilers play three games next week.

3. Morgan Geekie – C – BOS

One of the best streaming options right now is Morgan Geekie, who has been promoted to the Boston Bruins’ top line alongside David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha. He’s also centering the top power play unit. With elite deployment, Geekie is making the most of it with 11 points in his last 12 games. He’s doing better than Matthew Poitras did, and after a lacklustre showing in the World Juniors, Geekie is the add right now. He’s currently 7% owned in Yahoo leagues.

4. Joel Farabee – C – PHI

The Philadelphia Flyers might be the most surprising team this year, still keeping pace in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Joel Farabee has been one of the better forwards for the Flyers and is hot right now with nine points in his last six games. He’s on the left wing of the top line with Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny, and is on the first power play unit. Farabee is also a decent peripheral category coverer, with 85 shots, 20 hits, and 33 blocks so far this season. He’s 19% owned in Yahoo leagues. Philadelphia plays four games next week.

5. Dakota Joshua – RW – VAN

This is probably for deep leagues only, but Dakota Joshua is on an absolutely dynamite third line for the Vancouver Canucks. Alongside Conor Garland and Teddy Blueger, this line is wreaking havoc and Joshua is showing up consistently on the score sheet. He’s got nine points in his last nine games, and Joshua has increased value in banger leagues. He’s put up 39 shots, 113 hits, and 22 blocks through 37 games this season. Joshua is 24% owned and Vancouver has a favourable four-game schedule next week.
