Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 23: Overtime goal from Nazem Kadri caps off comeback win for Calgary

The Calgary Flames keep… finding a way. Some might call them the Find-a-Way Flames. They’ve once again came back to score a late third period goal to turn near defeat into a certain victory. Less than a week since they last beat the Dallas Stars on the road by scoring five unanswered goals, the scoring was a little lower this game.

After finishing the second period knotted at 2–2, neither team got on the board in the second. However, an early penalty shot in the third period saw the Stars convert. In the late minutes of the game, the Flames thought they scored but it was waived off. However, they scored again to tie up the game to take it to overtime.

Early in the extra frame, the Flames scored to complete the comeback. The goal was reviewed by Toronto but it held, giving the Flames a big two points in their quest to get back into the playoffs.

Looking at the charts, there are a few standouts. First, the Stars got the better of Jacob Markstrom—despite having few shots make it to the net, their two non-penalty shot goals came in high-danger areas. However, the Flames also got two goals from the high-danger areas as well, something they’ve struggled with to start the year but have since started seeing more often.
