Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 20: Calgary rallies in third period for massive comeback victory

The Calgary Flames showcased a game of resilience with a side of post-Thanksgiving offence in a 7–4 comeback win against the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center. The Flames found themselves down 4–2 in the second period, but they mounted a massive comeback in the third with five unanswered goals.

After spending a team dinner at his place the night before, Blake Coleman—a Texas-born player—scored the tying goal in the third period, igniting the Flames’ offensive surge. Elias Lindholm quickly followed up, netting the go-ahead goal just 29 seconds later. Mikael Backlund extended the lead with another goal with an unbelievable pass from Connor Zary.

The Flames’ ability to score in quick succession showcased their offensive depth. Yegor Sharangovich, A.J. Greer, and Adam Ruzicka had also contributed goals in the first two periods, setting the stage for the dramatic third-period turnaround.

Jacob Markstrom played a crucial role in the victory, making 23 saves. The Flames’ win improved their record to 8–9–3 for the season, which is quite the November turnaround after being 31st overall after the Heritage Classic. With this victory, the Flames continued to build momentum as they claw their way into the playoff race.

Charts from the win are below! Perhaps most impressively, the Flames got the bulk of their scoring from in close, which is a marked difference from their offensive results from the start of the year.
