Calgary Flames have sent down Nick DeSimone to the AHL Wranglers

After their loss to the Colorado Avalanche last night, the Calgary Flames have announced that defenseman Nick DeSimone has been sent down to the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL.

DeSimone was called up to the Flames on November 6. He skated in eight games for the Flames averaging 12:50 TOI per game, and put up four points. He was overall a very steady third pairing defender for the Flames while he was with the team, providing reliable minutes in a depth role. He last played on November 20th when the Flames defeated the Seattle Kraken on the road.

Since then, Dennis Gilbert has taken his place, slotting back into the lineup for the past three contests. Gilbert has played 12 games this season and averages a very similar 12: 50 TOI per night.

If DeSimone stays with the Wranglers, Gilbert will likely assume 6D responsibilities going forward. That being said, this could be a simple paper transaction as the Flames only have six defenders with the team. Options for the seventh defeseman slot include DeSimone, Ilya Solovyov, and Jordan Oesterle, all of who have been on the roster at some point this season.

Right now, the Flames have a roster 21 players and have $2,749,167 in cap space.
