Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 11: Calgary snaps losing streak as Pospisil becomes second rookie to score in NHL debut

The Calgary Flames put an end to their six-game losing streak with a strong performance against Seattle, specifically in the third period to defeat the Seattle Kraken 6–3.

The Flames came out swinging in the final frame, taking control of the game with two quick goals to break the 2–2 tie. Yegor Sharangovich scored just 1:33 into the third period, redirecting a shot from Nikita Zadorov past Seattle’s goaltender Philipp Grubauer. Mikael Backlund extended the lead to 4–2 at the four-minute mark when he capitalized on a rebound following a save on A.J. Greer‘s breakaway attempt.

The Flames also saw scoring contributions from Martin Pospisil and Noah Hanifin, while Backlund and Rasmus Andersson added empty-net goals. Notably, Pospisil scored his first NHL goal, making it two straight games that Flames rookies scored in their NHL debuts—Connor Zary scored his first NHL goal just one game ago against the Dallas Stars.

Flames’ goalie Daniel Vladar made 17 saves, providing crucial stops at key moments to secure the victory.

Despite the win, the Flames had to play with 11 forwards for most of the game due to Andrew Mangiapane receiving a match penalty for cross-checking early in the first period. Mangiapane’s actions will likely be reviewed further as his intent to injure is suspension-worthy. The action occurring earlier in the game may factor into how many games he’s suspended for, but a suspension is a near-certainty nevertheless.
