Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 74: Calgary ekes out win over San Jose to remain in the race

The Calgary Flames have a gauntlet of games remaining in their schedule. Between handling their own business and watching the out-of-town scoreboard, every passing game is critical in the Flames’ pursuit of the playoffs. They had the chance to handle their own side of the equation with a game against the 32nd place San Jose Sharks.

Things were going well for the Flames to open the game as they scored two goals early in the first to establish the tone and pace. Or at least that’s what you’d think a team would do when they find themselves with their backs against the wall and have an opportunity to shut down a game with a decisive win.

However, they allowed the Sharks to immediately turn the tide as Calgary eased off. It led to the Sharks not just tying the game, but scoring for a third time for their first lead of the game. With their second and third goals coming in quick succession, the mood in the Saddledome was decidedly disgruntled, but the Flames were able to immediately respond to tie the game back up with a goal from Walker Duehr.

Back at square one heading into the third, it was Calgary that scored to gain the lead—Nazem Kadri scored the big goal in a big game. From there, the Flames were able to stop the damage and keep the Sharks at bay. Calgary picks up a win while the Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators both lost. The Calgary Flames refuse to go away.

Charts from the win are below.
