Flames Game Recaps

Flames Visual Recap 66: Calgary drops critical game against lowly Ducks, dealt major blow to playoff hopes

For the next few weeks, the Calgary Flames will remain tantalisingly close to making the second wild card spot. They are very much still in the playoff race and after picking up two major road wins, they are in contention. They returned home to the Saddledome to face the Anaheim Ducks in one of the season’s most clearly must-win games.

Things started off on the right foot for the Flames as they controlled much of the play and despite not scoring in the first, the signs were there that they could and should win the game. They then opened the scoring in the second period, but the Ducks quickly responded to tie, then also scored again to go up by one.

Along came the third period with Calgary facing a dire situation of still being winless when trailing after two period. The trend unfortunately continued for the Flames as they couldn’t muster the tying goal and lost in regulation. This is a huge, possibly the biggest setback so far of the season.

Charts from the game are here.
