After suffering yet another heartbreaking loss against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, the Flames were in absolute must win territory against the Colorado Avalanche. Behind in both points and games in hand, they simply could not effort anything but a two point effort.
They did the complete opposite.
The game started with the Avs scoring two goals on their first two shots of the game. Should come as no surprise that Jacob Markstrom was in net for those, and playing catchup the whole night was simply not the Flames’ forte.
Sure they got some highlights from Tyler Toffoli’s powerplay goal, Milan Lucic’s knockout fight, and Mikael Backlund being as spicy as every, but that doesn’t get you into the playoffs.
The Flames’ best players were non-existent and now so are their playoff hopes.
