The Calgary Flames were set to play their second straight game on the road against the same team for the second time this season. In December, they won two consecutive road games against the San Jose Sharks. This time around, they were looking to avoid being swept by the St. Louis Blues, having lost their first meeting and losing in overtime two nights ago.
The Flames came out with ferocity as they were good at funneling the puck towards the net and had a decent chunk of scoring chances. However, the goaltending on both sides of the ice was sharp and the game was scoreless past the midpoint. With under five minutes to go in the second, recent call-up Walker Duehr scored his first NHL goal to break the deadlock.
In the third period, St. Louis immediately tied the game up 20 seconds into the frame, but the Flames didn’t back down and responded. They scored three unanswered goals to get back into the win column and have now picked up four of a possible six points so far on their five-game Central Division road trip.
Charts from the victory are below.
