The Calgary Flames hosted the Edmonton Oilers in the final regular season Battle of Alberta of the 202223 season. Jacob Markstrom started in net for the Flames, while Stuart Skinner was in goal for the Oilers.
Despite the Flames absolutely dominating the game at even strength, the Oilers ended up winning the special teams battle and potting the game winner on the power play.
Questionable officiating aside, this game was incredibly close, chippy, and a truly entertaining BOA. Hopefully it’s not the last one we see this season, but if so, the Oilers won the regular season season series 2–1.
The best part of this game for the Flames was the play of Markstrom, who was simply sensational in goal. He looked like the Markstrom who finished second in Vezina Trophy voting last season. It was a great sign for the Flames who needed Markstrom to have a strong game against the Oilers, and start off the second half of the season on a strong note.
