Fresh off of their first shutout loss of the season coming at the hands of the Washington Capitals, the Calgary Flames immediately faced a strong opponent in the Carolina Hurricanes. Looking to end their road trip on a high note, Calgary instead couldn’t get a lead in a game pretty much controlled by the Hurricanes.
Calgary responded two separate times to tie the game up after allowing goals, but the third goal by Carolina held as the game-winner. Had it not been for Daniel Vladar, the Flames might not have been this one as closely as they were.
On a brighter note, Tyler Toffoli recorded his 200th career goal off of a breakaway feed from Jonathan Huberdeau.
The Flames head back to Calgary with a 9–9–3 record, their regulation losses now with a two count higher than their regulation wins.
