How the Caesars-Capitals Jersey Deal Pays Off for Both Sides

The Washington Capitals and Caesars sponsorship deal did something nobody else in the NHL had announced before.

Back in September 2021, the Capitals named Caesars Entertainment as their first jersey patch partner. The Caesars Sportsbook logo then appeared on the team’s home and third jerseys at Capital One Arena from the 2022-23 season. No other NHL team had ever given a jersey patch as part of a sponsorship deal.

At the time, it was another big step to build a relationship that already included the opening of a Caesars Sportsbook at Capital One Arena earlier in 2021. Still, to this day, it is a monumental deal that’s still active and continues to benefit both sides.

Read on to find out how.

The Caesars-Capitals Jersey Deal

The deal put a 3 x 3.5-inch Caesars Sportsbook patch on the upper-right chest of Capitals home and third jerseys worn at Capital One Arena. And it’s still there today. And it’s more than just a logo. The agreement included casino and gaming programming, Caesars Rewards, hospitality space, and VIP seating at the arena, so it really was a massive deal, more than ‘just a patch’.

The financial terms weren’t made public, so we don’t actually know how much Caesars paid the Capitals for the jersey space. We don’t want to speculate, but for a multi-year deal that’s still active in 2025, it has to be many millions.

The result was the patch giving Caesars something that’s pretty difficult to ignore. Every time the Capitals played at home, the brand appeared directly on the players rather than sitting on an advert somewhere around the arena.

Making History as the First-Ever Jersey Patch Sponsor in NHL History

Technically, the Caesars deal was the first team agreement announced under the NHL’s Jersey Advertising Program, which started with the 2022-23 season. It was a big change for the league, where logos hadn’t traditionally appeared on regular team jerseys.

Sports betting and online casino brands were already well established online by then, with operators such as LeoVegas part of the same wider gambling market, but putting that type of branding directly on an NHL jersey was something new.

The Capitals were basically first through the door. By July 2022, several other NHL clubs had announced jersey sponsors, and the league said teams were on pace to generate significantly more than $100 million collectively based on the average fees agreed at that point. Hence why we think the Capitals deal was worth many millions.

The Benefits of The Deal For The Caesars and Capitals

For the Capitals, the obvious benefit was another source of sponsorship revenue. Caesars already had its sportsbook at Capital One Arena, so the jersey patch connected something fans saw during the game with a physical Caesars location inside the same venue.

For Caesars, it meant massive visibility.

The logo appeared during games, photographs, highlights, broadcasts, and other coverage involving the home and third jerseys. Caesars also had access to hospitality and other programming through the wider partnership.

The actual return on the jersey sponsorship hasn’t been publicly disclosed, again, so we can’t say exactly how profitable it was for either side. For at least the Capitals, it has to be many millions.

What Has Happened Since The Caesars-Capitals Jersey Deal

The Caesars patch didn’t stay on the Capitals jerseys forever.

TikTok became the team’s first road jersey partner for the 2024-25 season. Then in September 2025, the Capitals announced Coupang as the new home and third jersey patch partner beginning with the 2025-26 preseason.

That doesn’t mean Caesars disappeared from hockey or Washington.

Caesars and the NHL renewed their wider US partnership in March 2024, including sports betting, gaming, NHL-branded online casino games, and Caesars Rewards experiences.

And the Caesars Sportsbook at Capital One Arena is still operating in 2026.

So the jersey patch itself had a limited run, but it helped start something much bigger. NHL jersey sponsorships are now completely normal, and the Capitals and Caesars were the first pair to announce one.
