Calgary Flames 7 game check in: The losses continue to pile up

We return with our seven-game check-in series, as we check in on what’s been going on with the Calgary Flames throughout this stretch.

It’s been 10 days since the trade deadline, as the Flames emerged as clear winners. All eyes are now on where the team will end in the standings, as bringing Gavin McKenna to Calgary seems like more of a possibility following every loss.

The highs

While the Flames did have a couple of surprising victories throughout this stretch, there hasn’t been much to cheer about besides the team getting more losses for the tank. It’s the biggest thing fans are focused on right now, as the more the Flames lose, the better their odds get at potentially claiming the first overall pick.

After all, there isn’t a team besides Calgary that is more deserving of that number one draft pick. It also helped that the Flames had a strong trade deadline, trading MacKenzie Weegar a couple of days before and trading Nazem Kadri right at the last minute.

The lows

Honestly, if you’re a Flames fan right now, you can’t really complain. The team sold off two major veteran players near the deadline and currently is second-last in the entire NHL.

The one big gripe I probably have with the team right now is their utilization of Zayne Parekh and Hunter Brzustewicz. At this point, the Flames should be doing everything in their power to get as young as possible. There’s no reason why young players should be sitting in the press box, as the team has absolutely nothing to lose by playing more kids.

The road ahead

Here are the next seven games for the Flames:

March 16: @ DET

March 18: vs STL

March 20th: vs FLA

March 22nd: vs TBL

March 24th: vs LAK

March 26th: vs ANA

March 28th: vs VAN
