The Calgary Flames were the only NHL team to not bring home an Olympic medal

The 2026 Olympic hockey tournament came to a close on Sunday, with Canada suffering a heartbreaking O.T. loss to the Americans. In what was a thrilling two weeks of hockey, plenty of NHL stars shone bright on the world’s biggest stage. The same can’t be said about the Calgary Flames at the Olympics.

Following the tournament, every single NHL team was represented on the podium. Well, except for the Calgary Flames. Yes, the Flames were the only team in the entire NHL that didn’t bring home a single medal.

A small Flames contingent

As we knew going into the tournament, the Calgary Flames had just one representative at the Olympics, that of course being Slovakia’s Martin Pospisil. The Flames were one of just two teams in the NHL to only have one player at the tournament, and the only team with no one on one of the big four teams (Finland, Sweden, Canada, U.S.A).

There were 10 total teams with three or fewer players at the tournament, with the Flames and Blackhawks tied for the least at one apiece. On top of that, as mentioned above, the Flames were the only team with zero players from one of the big four nations.

The only NHL team without a medal

Not only were the Flames tied for the fewest number of players at the tournament, but they also finished the tournament with a total of zero medals. Every other NHL team brought home at least one medal, with many bringing home multiple.

In total there were 10 teams who brought home one medal, as well as 21 teams who brought home two or more medals. The Florida Panthers led the way with a whopping seven medals, with the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars close behind with six medals. The Golden Knights were next up with five medals.

The Calgary Flames, meanwhile, had zero medals. After Slovakia failed to win their bronze medal match, the Flames’ lone representative, Pospisil, went home empty-handed, which left the Flames as the only team with nothing to show for the Olympics. Here’s hoping 2030 is different.
