Calgary Flames Sunday Census: Rasmus Andersson’s best moments as a Calgary Flame

The inevitable has finally occurred: after 10 seasons with the Calgary Flames, Rasmus Andersson has been traded and is now a Vegas Golden Knight. Aside from Mikael Backlund, Andersson was the longest-serving Flame on the active roster, and he is a true success story for the organization. Now that this chapter is closed, we thought we would ask you what were Rasmus Andersson’s best moments as a Flame were. We asked, you answered.

Rasmus Andersson’s best moments as a Flame

We presented this poll to our readers.

Boom

If there was one thing Andersson was elite at, it was his trash-talking. He was not shy of showcasing his personality on the ice, so once the camera caught him trash-talking his opponents, this gif became a staple across the Flames community for years.

Andersson vs Tom Wilson

Last season, Andersson and Tom Wilson went at it. Well, they didn’t fight, but they were chirping at each other to no end. Initially, Klapka looked to cross-check Wilson, and Wilson went down to the ice. However, Klapka and Andersson both thought Wilson embellished, and once the whistle was blown, Andersson mocked Wilson. He did it so well that even the broadcast picked up the audio of Andersson mocking Wilson crying. It was a hilarious clip from Andersson.

Andersson’s scores on a Mike Smith masterclass

Flames fans know all too well how traumatic some of Mike Smith’s moments have been, but to be on the good side of it was a breath of fresh air for Flames fans. During the Battle of Alberta playoff series, Andersson looked to dump the puck into the Oilers zone towards Smith from the Flames zone, and Smith completely messed up, allowing the puck to end up at the back of the net.

Andersson ended up scoring against Smith in a playoff game, in one of the most heated rivalries in the league, from his own zone. The best part about this clip is Smith’s reaction, seemingly blaming anyone but himself for allowing such a soft shot to go in his net. It definitely didn’t take the most skill, but just because this goal was against Edmonton and Mike Smith in particular, I think this is his best goal as a Flame, and one of Rasmus Andersson’s best moments as a Calgary Flame.

The Gaudreau tribute game

Colombus was in town for the first time since Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away, and there was not a dry eye in the Saddledome. The game became a full tribute to Flames legend Johnny Gaudreau from start to finish, while his family was in town. One of the most beautiful moments of the night was during the 3 stars announcements, where the Flames named Johnny Gaudreau as the first star of the game, and had Guy Gaudreau accept the honour with Mikael Backlund and Rasmus Andersson standing with him.

Following this, Backlund, Gadureau, and Andersson had a wonderful post-game interview with Ryan Leslie.

Thank you, Rasmus Andersson

Andersson was a great Flame for many years, and although the timeline of his career and the franchise just didn’t end up working out, and a trade was necessary at the end of the day, the team will greatly miss his skills, leadership, and personality. Flames fans will always remember how good a Flame he was.
