Calgary Flames prospect Ethan Wyttenbach has continued his incredible freshman year, as the 2025 5th-round selection was recently nominated for the Hobey Baker Award. The Flames prospect was one of 86 total players nominated for college hockey’s most prestigious award.
The long initial list of nominees will eventually get down to 10 finalists through fan voting and other methods. To cast a vote for Wyttenbach, fans can text in their vote.
The 18-year-old is having a season for the ages for Quinnipiac University in the NCAA, currently sitting on 33 points in 24 games, despite falling all the way to the 5th round at last summer’s draft. There’s a case to be made that Wyttenbach is the best freshman in the NCAA. Among all freshmen in the NCAA, he currently ranks first for points and assists and is fourth in goals. Among all NCAA players, he’s fourth in points and sixth in assists.
Wyttenbach is looking to become just the third Flames prospect to win the Hobey Baker, following Lane MacDonald in 1989 and of course, Johnny Gaudreau in 2014.
