With the Rasmus Anderson trade chip finally falling, Flames fans can breathe just a bit easier. The prospect pool for the Calgary Flames looks to get even deeper, with the addition of Wiebe and picks, meaning even more future prospects.
Let’s take a look at the past week for Calgary Flames prospects.
Welcome to the TWC Calgary Flames prospect update. Each week, we’ll dive into how the Flames’ prospects have done in their respective leagues. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games and was born in 2001 or later.
Calgary Flames prospect updates
AHL
- It was a rough week for the Wranglers, who lost both of their games this past week to their rivals, the Bakersfield Condors. Even worse, Calgary only scored a single goal across both of those games combined. The Wranglers lost 5-1 on the 16th and 1-0 on the 17th.
- The Wranglers now sit at 8th in the AHL’s Pacific Division with a 15-15-10 record. This is a season-worst for them so far in the 2025-2026 campaign.
- Since being called up on December 12th, Arsenii Sergeev has played admirably in net, posting a .922 and 2.54 GAA, but due to offensive struggles, the NCAA alumnus has only collected a single win.
- Another prospect to watch is Flames star defensive prospect Zayne Parekh, who was assigned to the Wranglers on a conditioning stint on the 16th.
- Lots of movements with forward William Stromgren and defender Zayne Parkeh being assigned to the Wranglers on the 16th. Goaltender Connor Murphy was reassigned to the Rapid City Rush, and forward Martin Pospisil was called up to the Calgary Flames on the 19th. Forward Dryden Hunt was reassigned to the Wranglers on the 19th as well.
ECHL
- The Rapid City Rush faced the same fate as the Wranglers this past week. They lost a pair of games to the Cincinnati Cyclones on the 16th (5-4) and 17th (3-2).
- They now also sit .500, with a 16-16-3 record, which places them 5th in the ECHL Mountain Division.
- There are currently no Calgary Flames-affiliated prospects on the team.
- Rapid City did get their starting goaltender, Connor Murphy, back from the Wranglers on the 19th. In a corresponding move on the 19th, goaltender Jack Bostedt was sent back to the Peoria Rivermen of the SPHL, and defender Doug Scott was also sent back to the SPHL’s Birmingham Bulls.
Europe
- The 2025 7th round defender, Jacob Leander, only appeared in one game this past week, a 7-4 loss to Linköping HC U20 on the 14th. He did find the score sheet with an assist. The 2007-born defender has been a shooting machine recently, generating 10 shots over the past three games.
- Stockselius is back, and boy, is it Swe-de for his team. He played in two games this past week, a 4-3 SOW against Brynäs IF U20 on the 14th, where he helped set up a goal, and Stockselius had a monster 4-point performance against Timrå IK U20 on the 18th.
NCAA
- If it’s any consolation to Flames fans, Ethan Wyttenbach is currently beating Gavin McKenna in the NCAA rookie scoring race with his 33 points to McKenna’s 24. Quinnipiac also continued its winning ways this past week, collecting a 5-1 win over Colgate on the 16th and then a 4-1 win over Cornell on the 17th, with Wyttenbach contributing an assist and then netting a goal in their second game.
- Hoskins was a goal machine against the University of Massachusetts this past week, scoring in both games against them on the 16th and 17th.
- New Year, seemingly new player for Luke Misa as the Penn State forward has been on a tear lately, and leaves the week on a 5-game point streak, where he has accumulated 8 points across that time period. The speedy winger seems to be finally transitioning to the NCAA game.
- Cade Littler appears to be moving up the University of North Dakota lineup, averaging almost double his usual bottom-six minutes. It was points night for both UND Flames prospects as Littler assisted on a goal in the second game, and Cole Reschny had a pair of two-point outings on the 16th and 17th.
- Cullen Potter is out for the season after suffering a brutal upper-body injury this week. He’s expected back in the NCAA next season.
OHL
- Same name in a new place, as Jacob Battaglia was traded from Kingston to Flint on January 8th, for eight picks. He is settling in nicely as a playmaking top-6 forward with Flint, where he accumulated a goal, an assist, and a +1 rating across three games.
WHL
- Defender Axel Hurtig remained busy and posted his first positive rating game in nearly a month in Calgary’s 4-3 OTL to Penticton on the 17th. He also posted an assist in that same game. Overall, he played three games this past week.
- Since being reassigned to the WHL, forward Andrew Basha has lit the league up with a trio of 3-point games, and this past week was no different. He played three games, a 3-2 win against the Oil Kings on the 14th, a 7-3 win against them on the 16th (where he had a 3-point outing), and an 8-5 loss to Prince Albert on the 17th. The do-it-all energy forward that is Basha is certainly gaining confidence.
Russia
- 2023 6th round goaltender, Yegorov was a busy tendy, appearing in 3 games this past week. He did collect his first shutout of the season in a 1-0 shootout victory over MHK Atlant Mytishchi, while going 2-1-0 overall.
- 2024 3rd rounder, Krill Zarubin, only appeared in one game this past week. It was a 5-1 win over Kapitan Stupino on the 15th.
