Calgary Flames recall Martin Pospisil from AHL conditioning loan, Dryden Hunt reassigned to the Calgary Wranglers

The Calgary Flames announced this morning that Martin Pospisil has been recalled from the Calgary Wranglers, while sending down Dryden Hunt to the Wranglers. Pospisil has been out for the first half of the 2025–26 season with a disclosed injury he sustained in the preseason. On January 13th, Pospisil was assigned to the Calgary Wranglers on a conditioning loan. He played two games.

Hunt has been up and down throughout the season. He has seen three games in the NHL and 26 for the Wranglers in the AHL. Across those 26 games, Hunt has put up an impressive campaign of 11 goals and 31 points.

What does this mean for the Calgary Flames?

If I had to guess, Pospisil will slowly work his way back into the lineup. He has an ugly history of concussion injuries, and it’s unclear to the public what his current injury was. When he returns to the lineup, I would predict he will slot in on the fourth line. He may play centre, as I would see Justin Kirkland as the odd man out of that trio.

Pospisil is slated to play in the Olympics next month, which may also affect the way the Flames approach his return. There’s no need to risk an injury with Pospisil having hopes to suit up for his country. Pospisil will likely play games before the Olympics, but I would not be surprised if his role is limited to protecting from another possible injury.

Hunt will return to the Wranglers and fill out his role on their top line. He’s having a great season and will look to continue to build off of it.
