Bruins’ proposed trade package for Andersson leaked as Swede leaves Calgary for Vegas
The Boston Bruins were reportedly ready to offer a significant package to the Calgary Flames for defenceman Rasmus Andersson. However, the deal fell through due to Andersson’s reluctance to sign an extension, leading to his trade to the Vegas Golden Knights. In a move which has shocked many, almost as much as the rewards on offer at Rainbow Riches, the Swede will now be moving to Nevada.
In the days leading up to Andersson’s trade, the Bruins were considered the frontrunners. The 29-year-old defenceman’s hesitation to sign an extension was the primary obstacle preventing the Bruins from finalizing the deal. The Bruins needed this commitment before proceeding with the trade.
An insider has revealed:
“The belief is that it was Lohrei and a 2027 first, I think, and maybe more. People kind of know that Boston had this out there.”
Despite the Bruins’ efforts, Andersson, who was uncomfortable signing an extension with any team, was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Flames received defenceman Zach Whitecloud, a 2027 first-round pick, a conditional 2028 second-round pick, and blueline prospect Abram Wiebe in return.
The insider gave further details:
“The Boston Bruins believed they could get a deal done with the Flames, and there would be an extension. Everything changed on Sunday morning. Andersson’s representative, Claude Lemieux, from what I heard, called the Flames and said that we are willing to go to Boston, but we are not willing to do an extension. We won’t be doing an extension anywhere right now.”
Despite missing out on Lohrei, the Flames did not walk away empty-handed. They received a substantial package from the Golden Knights, and Friedman speculated that the Flames could check in on Whitecloud’s availability as the trade deadline approaches.
As the March 6 trade deadline draws near, the Flames continue to be a hot topic, with other names such as Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri being discussed. The Flames’ moves in the coming days will undoubtedly keep sports fans and sports betting fans on their toes.
