Multiple reports from both Calgary Flames and external reporters are suggesting that the long-awaited Rasmus Andersson trade is imminent. Rumours on potential trade packages are abundant, but a few seem to have stuck as legitimate possibilities.
The reported ask for Andersson is a first round pick plus a first-round prospect/player. This verbiage can be a bit confusing, but the first-round prospect/player generally means a player who was either drafted in the first round or is viewed as one that would be taken in the first round if there was a redraft. For example, Logan Stankoven was a second round pick but is a first-round player.
Here’s a breakdown of the rumours swirling about.
Detroit Red Wings
Calgary trades:
- Rasmus Andersson
Detroit trades:
- Nate Danielson
- 2027 1st Round Pick
The Detroit Red Wings were a top destination for Quinn Hughes, but that obviously did not materialize as he was traded to the Minnesota Wild. The Red Wings are fighting for top spot in the Atlantic Division so it does make sense for them to be big-game hunting.
This offer matches the asking price, however Danielson isn’t a true top-end prospect. Drew wrote about how Danielson could be a great replacement for Mikael Backlund when he retires, but he projects as a middle-six centre with a defensive leaning style. He will not be the high end guy the Flames need, but is still a surefire NHLer.
The 2027 first would bring the Flames to two firsts in each of the next two drafts.
Boston Bruins
Calgary trades:
- Rasmus Andersson
Boston trades:
- Mason Lohrei
- 2026 1st Round Pick
This is the trade circulating the internet the most. Lohrei is not a high end player either, but fits the build of what Craig Conroy has targeted on the left side of the blueline recently. He’s a 6’5″ 218lb two-way defenceman, however his underlyings are quite poor on what has been a decent Bruins team this season.
The 2026 first would give Calgary three first round picks in the upcoming draft.
Dallas Stars
Calgary trades:
- Rasmus Andersson
Dallas trades:
- Emil Hemming
- 2027 1st Round Pick
- 2026 2nd Round Pick
This is a relatively new one, and didn’t come from a very reliable source, but it did seem to stick online. Hemming just had a solid World Juniors with Finland, and coincidentally was drafted with the Stars’ first rounder in the year they traded for Chris Tanev, and that pick was on the table to be included in that trade. Hemming is a right-shot right winger who has put up great numbers in the OHL the past two seasons.
Adding two additional picks would be great in an Andersson trade, too. The first rounder is in 2027 so it would give the Flames two firsts in each of the next two drafts, though Dallas’ pick is likely going to be quite low as they are legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. However, adding another high pick in 2026 would definitely make up for that.
