The Calgary Flames have locked in their backup goalie for the next two years.
Chris Johnston reported earlier today that the Flames and Devin Cooley have agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $1.35M AAV.
A reliable backup for Dustin Wolf
There is no question in anyone’s mind that the starting goalie for the Flames for the next decade will be Dustin Wolf. Cooley knows that too, so this deal shows that he’s accepting the backup role and will continue to provide stability on the nights Wolf isn’t in the crease.
This season, there has been really nice chemistry between the goaltending tandem, and locking up Cooley to keep that twosome together is tidy business for the Flames.
In 13 games this season, Cooley has a solid 4-4-2 record, along with a 2.40 GAA and .914 SV%.
Cooley is a highly entertaining person and constantly lauded as a great teammate. This signing will hopefully continue to enhance the great culture in the Flames locker room as well.
