In devastating news, Calgary Flames prospect Henry Mews has been ruled out for the rest of the season. After taking a knee-on-knee hit in this weekend’s game against Notre Dame, the University of Michigan announced that he will not return for the balance of the season.
Getting to know Henry Mews
The offensive defenceman was drafted 74th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Flames out of the OHL’s Ottawa 67s. In his draft year, Mews put up 61 points in 65 games as a defenceman, good for seventh among defencemen.
He followed that up with an 82-point campaign last season, split between the 67’s and Sudbury Wolves. That was good for third in the OHL among all blueliners.
Mews then made the jump to the NCAA and started the season with nine assists in his first ten games. While his defensive game has been a work in progress, the expectation was that he would take strides in with Michigan this year.
Unfortunately, this season is now a write-off, as he rehabs this injury. Knee injuries are always difficult, but fingers crossed, he can be back to his brilliant self next season.
