We’ll be officially starting a new series, checking in on the Calgary Flames every seven games. This will run throughout the entire 2025-26 season, as we reflect on the team’s high and low points during that time.
It’s safe to say that the Flames couldn’t have had a worse start to the regular season. With the team currently sporting a miserable 1-6-0 record, fans are already looking ahead to the 2026 NHL Draft and its crown jewel, Gavin McKenna. As the team continues to struggle, the dream of landing the first overall pick only gets more real.

The highs
Let’s be blunt here: There hasn’t been much to admire from the Flames during these seven games. If anything, the biggest thing keeping the fanbase engaged is the idea of getting a top pick in a strong 2026 draft.
Despite it being early, the Flames have taken a real nosedive compared to last season. Their success during the previous year was unsustainable, and it was only a matter of time before the team would show who they really were.
The Flames’ only win came in a shootout against the provincial rivals in their first game of the season. However, we can all admit that the Flames got some incredibly lucky bounces during that game, and in reality, should be 0-7-0 right now.
The lows
Oh boy, where do we even begin? It seems like the issues the Flames had last season are still present, and look worse so far. Their biggest issue has been the lack of offence. Since their win in Edmonton, the Flames haven’t scored more than two goals per game, and currently rank dead last in the NHL for goals per game, with 1.57.
As for goaltending, Dustin Wolf hasn’t been able to bail the team out this time around. He’s currently 1-5, sporting a 0.866 save percentage, resulting in the team possessing a 3.86 goals-against average. Those are obviously some pretty ugly numbers, but in all fairness, Wolf has gotten little to no help from his team and has been hung out to dry many nights so far. It’s proven by the fact that the Flames’ goal differential throughout seven games is -15.
Overall, it’s been an ugly start to the Flames’ regular season. Their offence is bone dry, their defence is weak, and they currently have the highest odds of picking first overall. This poor start is a blessing more than a curse, as it proves that the Flames need some elite talent in their organization to take that next step.
The road ahead
Here are the next seven games on the schedule for the Flames. They’ll be in action tonight against the red-hot Montreal Canadiens and will have a four-game road trip, including another back-to-back.

October 24th: @ WPG
October 26th: vs NYR
October 28th: @ TOR
