It has again been a summer of change in the National Hockey League as all teams have taken the opportunity to freshen up their player roster and Western Conference, Pacific Division side, the Calgary Flames have been no different on that front. Their preparations for the upcoming pre season round of games continue at pace and in a little over fortnight, they make the trip to Rogers Place for the pre season opener against the Edmonton Oilers.
It was a little later than originally expected as the Ice Hockey rumour mill has long has Connor Zary closing in on a deal extension with the Flames, but it finally seems that an agreement is now on the verge of being struck, and it would be well timed for their training camp. Elliotte Friedman has recently reported that all that remains to be done on Zary’s new deal are the final touches, as both parties have agreed on a three year, $11.35 million extension which will represent an Average Annual Value right of around the $3.775 million mark per year.
Much like what gamers expect from live bitcoin casino offerings, there are actually no real surprises in this deal as both the length of the contract extension and the financial rewards being offered to the 23 year old, 2020 NHL Entry Draftee, are pretty much on the button of what most in the wider world of Ice Hockey were expecting, the only real question that lingers is why it took so long to get to the pen to paper stage. However, the length of time it has taken does imply that negotiations where lengthy and maybe a little bit fraught, but General Manager Craig Conroy’s patience has obviously paid off here as Zary will now sign and commit to a deal that the Flames would have wanted right from the very beginning.
It also compares very nicely indeed to the contract handed out to fellow 2020 first round pick Tyson Foerster earlier this summer, as the 23 year old right winger to his own two year $7.5 million extension with an almost identical AAV.
The bridge deal has been officially signed and it means that Zary is now fully tied to Calgary until he is 27 years old and in terms of what the future may then hold, it is over to the player himself to earn and justify that he is deserving of an even longer term extension at the next time of asking – but for now each party involved can consider themselves to be big winners given the terms on offer. The Flames are obviously keeping one of their most talented young forwards for the foreseeable future, and on a very affordable financial commitment, and Zary is now on improved terms and in the perfect position to prove he is deserving of a bumper new deal right at the point where he will be clearly in the prime portion of his career.
It represents such a no brainer for both parties that the fact it took so long to get over the line is almost pretty irrelevant, all that mattered was getting it done.
