Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers prospects set to play next week

Hockey is just around the corner! The Calgary Flames will be kicking off their preseason with two rookie games against the Edmonton Oilers next week.

Calgary will travel to Edmonton on Friday, September 12, before returning home to host the Oilers at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, September 14.

Young Stars Classic:

In January, the Vancouver Canucks announced that there would not be a 2025 edition of the Young Stars Classic in Penticton. While not a replacement per se, it’s great to see the Flames and Oilers prospects going head-to-head in a series like this. It should provide an opportunity for the team’s young players to strut their stuff before training camp.

Who to watch for the Calgary Flames:

All eyes will be on rookie defenseman Zayne Parekh, who had an impressive OHL season with 107 points and looks ready to make the jump to the NHL this upcoming season. Jacob Battaglia and Andrew Basha will likely join him as Flames prospects to watch in the series.

The other highly touted first-round picks to watch are Matvei Gridin and Sam Honzek, who will almost certainly feature. Do not expect to see any of the team’s NCAA players hitting the ice, including Cole Reschny and Cullen Potter.

The Flames have not announced ticket prices, but the tickets in Edmonton start at $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

The Flames and Oilers will then face off again in pre-season split-squad action on September 21, with games held both at home and away, starting at 6:00 PM MT.
