The Calgary Flames post-draft offseason business has begun.
The team announced that they have tended qualifying offers to their pending restricted free agents, with several players headed towards unrestricted free agency tomorrow.
Here is everything you need to know:
Flames RFAs who were tendered qualifying offers
The six players who have been provided qualifying offers include:
- Morgan Frost
- Rory Kerins
- Yan Kuznetsov
- Sam Morton
- Jeremie Poirier
- Connor Zary
No surprises on this list at all, compared to other teams’ difficult decisions. Zary and Frost are going to be starting with the Flames this season and play key roles. Kerins, Kuznetsov, Morton, and Poirier will be big-minute players with the Calgary Wranglers while also potentially challenging for spots in the NHL.
Flames Group 8 UFAs
Two players didn’t meet the GP requirements to become RFAs, therefore falling under the Group 8 UFAs, those were:
- Anthony Mantha
- Kevin Rooney
- Joel Hanley
- Dan Vladar
- Martin Frk
- Tyson Barrie
- Jarred Tinordi
- Jonathan Aspirot
They could still be signed by the team, but are more depth moves if anything. Forward Clark Bishop was set to become a UFA, but recently signed a one-year deal to remain with the organization.
Flames RFAs who were not tendered qualifying offers
Additionally, two players did not receive qualifying offers from the Flames:
- Waltteri Ignatjew
- Connor Murphy
Both of these goalies spent time with the AHL Wranglers last season. Management has decided to potentially move on from them, meaning that Devin Cooley and someone else will be starting with the Wranglers.
