Jakob Pelletier not qualified by Philadelphia, will become a UFA tomorrow

News out of Philadelphia today as the Flyers have chosen not to tender a qualifying offer to Jakob Pelletier, who will now become a UFA on July 1.

Pelletier was traded to the Flyers by the Calgary Flames in late January alongside a second round pick and Andrei Kuzmenko for Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee. At the time, the deal was looked at as giving up on a former first round pick in the hopes that Frost could be a solid middle-six centre.

The Flyers didn’t see enough from Pelletier

The jury is out on Frost, but it does look like the Flames attached the right asset in the trade, seeing as the Flyers don’t view Pelletier as part of their long term plans. Apparently the team liked Pelletier, but just didn’t feel that he showed enough for them to keep his rights on a QO.

Before the trade, Pelletier had four goals and 11 points in 24 games for the Flames, averaging 12:38 TOi per night. In 25 games for the Flyers, Pelletier put up just three goals and eight points, averaging 10:31 TOI per night.

The Flames may bring Pelletier back

With Pelletier hitting the open market tomorrow, the Flames could look to bring back the 2019 first rounder.

Pelletier loves the city of Calgary and brings immaculate vibes to the table. Maybe he tops out as an energy winger and penalty killer, but the Flames may take another run at him in free agency.
