Calgary Flames Prospect Roundup: Wranglers find offensive game in Abbotsford

After struggling to produce offence through much of the 2025 calendar year so far, the Calgary Wranglers found the twine eight times in two games this week. This week’s Calgary Flames Prospect Roundup looks at the Wranglers’ heading to the AHL playoffs as well as where the rest of the prospects are at in their own playoff series.

Let’s dive right in!

Welcome to The Win Column’s Calgary Flames prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Flames’ prospects have done in their respective leagues. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games and is younger than 25 years of age.

All data is from QuantHockey and EliteProspects. We also use an NHLe calculator built by Christian Roatis (@Croatis), which is used to estimate a player’s equivalent point total in the NHL based on how they are performing in their respective league. The calculator uses the difficulty of the given league combined with the ease at which a player puts up points to determine the NHLe.

Flames prospect happenings

AHL

  • The Wranglers went 2–0–0 this week, beating the Abbotsford Canucks 5–4 in a shootout on Friday then 3–1 on Saturday. They scored eight times, which is as many as they had scored in their three immediately preceding games.
  • They officially clinched a playoff berth this week and currently sit fifth in the Pacific Division, tied in points with the sixth-place San Jose Barracuda. The Wranglers hold the tiebreaker—regulation wins—over the Barracuda.
  • There was a Joni Jurmo sighting on Saturday, but he didn’t hit the scoresheet in any meaningful way. This was just his 17th AHL game of the year.
  • Rory Kerins picked up a goal on three shots and added a helper in Friday’s win. He’s up to 33 goals and 60 points in 61 games, leading the Wranglers in both categories.
  • Jeremie Poirier had a pair of helpers this week to improve to 39 points in 69 games. He leads all Wranglers blueliners in points.
  • Hunter Brzustewicz scored a goal and two points and is up to 31 points on the year. He’s second in points among Wranglers defencemen.
  • Two assists for William Stromgren as well, who improves to 48 points in 68 games.
  • Waltteri Ignatjew was between the pipes for both games and stopped 49 of the 54 shots he faced.

  • Krylya Sovetov lost their play-in series 2–1–0, including a 10–4 loss in the deciding game. Yegor Yegorov posted a 7–10–1 record across 20 games in the MHL with a 3.14 GAA and a 0.904 SV%. • Aydar Suniev and UMass fell to the top-seed Western Michigan to bow out of the NCAA Fargo Regional. Suniev finished his college season with 20 goals and 38 points in 35 games. He signed with the Flames and joined the team in Calgary but has yet to play for the team.
  • Penn State University lost its Frozen Four semifinal matchup with Boston University 3–1. Arsenii Sergeev had a spectacular season in goal, posting a 19–9–4 record with a 2.54 GAA and a 0.919 SV%. He tied Peyton Jones for most shutouts in team history in 100 fewer games.
