News out of the Saddledome today is the Calgary Flames have signed 2024 second-round pick Jacob Battaglia to a three-year entry-level contract.
He was picked with the draft choice the Flames acquired in the Chris Tanev trade to the Dallas Stars, in which the Flames also received prospect defenceman Artem Grushnikov.

Jacob Battaglia has been signed a three-year entry-level contract with an AAV of $931,700! The @KingstonFronts winger was our second-round pick in the 2024 #NHLDraft & posted 40 goals & 90 points in 68 regular season games this year!#Flames | @original16beer pic.twitter.com/M3xZuNXM34
A stellar season
Battaglia has had a phenomenal run in junior since being drafted. Wearing an “A” for a strong Kingston Frontenacs squad, Battaglia led the team in scoring with 40 goals and 90 points in 65 games. He also has two points in one playoff game so far, as the Frontenacs are up 1–0–0 against the Sudbury Wolves in round one.
In the overall OHL scoring race, Battaglia finished 11th overall in points and eighth overall in goals.
Battaglia joins Zayne Parekh, Matvei Gridin, and Andrew Basha from his draft class, who have signed ELCs with the Flames in what was a phenomenal 2024 draft.
Next steps for Battaglia
Due to AHL eligibility rules, Battaglia is not eligible to play in the AHL for the Calgary Wranglers next season. The next step for him would be to push as hard as he can to make the Flames out of training camp, and if he doesn’t, he’ll go back to junior for his fourth season.
Either option would be great for Battaglia as he has emerged as a leader for the Frontenacs and will be in contention for Canada’s World Juniors team in 2025–26.
