It just keeps getting better and better for Calgary Flames prospect Zayne Parekh. Parekh officially joined the short list of defencemen to score 100 points in a season. Better yet, Parekh is just the second blueliner to do so in the 21st century.
With the Saginaw Spirit on the power play, Parekh found a little open space to carry the puck towards the net. The rest is history.
THAT'S 100 POINTS FOR ZAYNE PAREKH! 1⃣0⃣0⃣@NHLFlames 2024 #NHLDraft pick Zayne Parekh sniped one up high to tally his 100th point of the season and make history for @SpiritHockey!🦅✨#OHL | @CHLHockey | #Flames pic.twitter.com/yRsAoZy7GY

This would be his 32nd goal of the season, complementing his 68 assists for the 100-point total.
Parekh hits the century mark in emphatic fashion
Parekh is the first defenceman since Ryan Ellis (2010–11) to hit this milestone. It took Parekh just 57 games to get there. As mentioned, Parekh and Ellis are the only two blueliners to do it this century. Before Ellis, it was Bill McCauley in 1994–95. Just ten total defencemen make up this list and seven of them accomplished it in the 1980s.
With his goal tonight, @NHLFlames prospect Zayne Parekh becomes just the 10th defenceman in #OHL history to hit the 100-point mark in a season—and the first to do it in 14 years since Ryan Ellis in 2011! 🔥🤩@CHLHockey | @OHL_History | @SpiritHockey | #Flames pic.twitter.com/bYPT8tu60p

Safe to say Parekh is in extremely exclusive company.
Parekh will find his name all over the OHL history books for many other reasons too. Parekh also joined Bobby Orr in the ranks of defenceman with two 30+ goal seasons just mere days ago. It’s been less than a week into March 2025 and Parekh has made headlines twice. With a handful of games remaining in the OHL regular season, he might make even more history before it’s all said and done.
The Flames found a special player in Parekh
The sky seems to be the limit for Parekh at this point. The Calgary Flames selected Parekh ninth overall in the 2024 NHL Draft and he’s made it abundantly clear he’s the team’s most exciting prospect.
