As we enter the final couple weeks of the fantasy hockey regular season, the playoff hunt is coming down to the wire for some teams. Hitting the waiver wire for some added talent is a must if you’re hoping to secure your spot in the dance.
Below are four players worth targeting on waivers to give your team the extra boost it needs to win your matchup and get into the playoffs.
Ryan Donato, W – Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks are a mess right now, but that doesn’t mean there’s no fantasy value to be had on the roster. In particular, Ryan Donato has been lighting up the scoresheet recently. Dating all the way back to the first of February, Donato has been on an absolute tear with 11 points in his last eight games, including four goals.
He’s also been racking up shots, posting 21 shots across those eight games. For good measure, he’s even added on 10 hits. As long as he’s skating on Chicago’s top line and top power play unit, he’s a must-own and is readily available in most leagues.
Shane Wright, C/W – Seattle Kraken
Has Shane Wright finally arrived? It certainly seems that way. The 2022 fourth overall pick is having the best season of his young career right now, sitting on 13 goals and 34 points in 57 games. Of late, however, he’s been particularly hot, posting five goals and 12 points in his last 11 games dating back to January 25.
Even though he’s skating on what is on paper the Seattle Kraken’s third line, he’s flanked by the Kraken’s best forward in Jared McCann, which is a great spot to be. As long he stays hot, he’s worth a look, especially with four games on the docket for the Kraken this coming week.
Eric Comrie, G – Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are a wagon. The NHL’s top team this season has lost just 18 times his year across 60 games. In other words, a start by a Jets goalie is more often than not a win. With the team slated to play four times this week, including a back-to-back against the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils, backup Eric Comrie is guaranteed at least one start.
If you need a streamer in net, there isn’t really a better option out there than Comrie. Sitting on a 0.912 save percentage and 2.56 GAA across 15 games, Comrie has been rock solid this season when he gets to play. Comrie hasn’t allowed more than three goals since November 29 and has won three of his last four starts. If you need some goalie support this week, pick up Comrie for the Jets back-to-back.
Will Cuylle, W – New York Rangers
If you’re in need of a cheap category coverage option, Will Cuylle is your man. Across his last five games, he’s been stuffing the stat sheet. Over that span, Cuylle has posted three goals, four points, one power play point, one shorthanded point, 12 shots, and 21 hits.
In particular, he’s a hit machine this season, sitting on 221 on the year, which ranks third in the NHL among forwards. Considering he’s also tagged on 16 goals and 31 points alongside 109 shots, there isn’t a better waiver option for hits leagues than Cuylle right now.
