On the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts, Host Elliotte Friedman shared the latest news surrounding the Calgary Flames. With the trade deadline approaching, the Flames have made their approach to the near and distant future clear.
All the pieces are staying
The segment starts with Host Kyle Bukauskas sharing that Craig Conroy has told teams he has no interest in moving Nazem Kadri, Mackenzie Weegar or Rasmus Andersson. Friedman fires back confirming they are still in the playoff race and everyone knows they don’t want to tear it down.
The Flames are taking the opposite approach of what most expected. Unlike last year, they wouldn’t be moving rentals. Players like Kadri have term remaining making them slightly more attractive.
Friedman shares that the Flames want to keep Andersson “in the worst way.” He goes on to say that he doesn’t have an idea of what the contract may look like.
Flames believe in Wolf
Recently named NHL Rookie of the Month, Dustin Wolf has come up big for the Flames all season long. Friedman calls back to a previous episode referring to the Winnipeg Jets having the utmost faith in goalie Connor Hellebuyck.
He shares that the Flames locker room really believes in Wolf and he could be a “real stud.” The Flames room believes they have a chance to win with him.
“Someone said to me that the Flames players are starting to believe that way about Wolf. That maybe they’ve got like a real stud there. And if this is what he is and those guys see him every day then you believe you have a chance to win.”

Rolling out the red carpet
Then the hosts share that the Flames organization sent Craig Conroy on a private jet to pick up Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost. The trio had the opportunity to get acquainted with each other and get introductions out of the way prior to arriving in Calgary.
The generous gesture further proves that the duo is wanted here.
Although the Flames have diverted from the full blown rebuild plan, recent developments provide some reassurance for those hoping for a playoff run.
