Breaking: The Calgary Flames have acquired Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost from the Philadelphia Flyers

As the Calgary Flames were taking on the Anaheim Ducks tonight, news broke of the team working on a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. Andrei Kuzmenko was a late scratch for unknown reasons, and Jakob Pelletier was pulled out of the game.

Well, we now know why: The Flames have traded both Pelletier and Kuzmenko to the Flyers with Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost being the main pieces coming back. Philadelphia has also received a 2025 2nd and a 2028 7th-round pick as part of the deal. It’s also important to note that Kuzmenko has waived his No-Trade-Clause to agree to the trade.

A huge addition for a competitive Flames team

Farabee and Frost were both rumored to be on their way out of Philly for a while. Both were former first-round-picks, and now will have the chance to be a part of a young Flames core.

Farabee, 24, has had a down year with only eight goals and 19 points in 50 games this season. It’s safe to say that a change of scenery was needed and he’ll be getting that in Cowtown.

Frost is the most intriguing piece in this deal. We know that the Flames have been looking for a center for a while, and now they have one. Frost, 25, has 11 goals and 25 points in 49 games, and also was pulled from the game he was playing. Despite speculation that it was just an injury, he’ll now also be heading north of the border.

The Flames now have added two players who fit the team’s timeline. While it’s sad to see a player like Pelletier go, the reality is that the Flames got better with this deal. Craig Conroy continues putting his plan in motion, and time well tell if it reaps any rewards.
