The injury happened approximately seven minutes into the second period when a collision between Zary and Ducks defender Drew Helleson occurred. Zary quickly went down on the ice in severe pain as the play was later discovered to be a knee-on-knee hit. Helleson was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct as a result of the play.
Flames fans are hoping for the best for Zary
As of right now, there is no status on Zary’s condition. Obviously, this was a scary injury as he was in immense pain from the hit. We wish nothing but a speedy recovery for the best possible outcome. It also isn’t good timing as this injury occurred during the first game of the mom’s trip, so our best wishes extend to Zary’s mother as well.
However knee-to-knee collisions often can be quite long-term depending on the severity. If the Flames do lose Zary long-term, it would be an absolute blow to their forward core. Zary has been a huge bright spot this season and losing him for months or the whole season would be tragic news. In the meantime, all we can do is wait for updates from the team hoping for encouraging news.
