The Calgary Flames have ended their eight-game road losing streak and overcame recent scoring struggles with a 4-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. This marks the first time since October 13th that the Flames have scored more than three goals in a game and secured a regulation win on the road.
Flames fans must’ve been pretty happy to see the results of tonight’s game, as it serves as a refreshing reminder of what offence looks like. The game mostly went back and forth between the two teams until Jonathan Huberdeau scored the game-winning goal for the Flames on the power play near the end of the second. He would also be named as the first star of the game.
It’s a relief for the team to get this type of win, despite it being against a Predators team that is severely struggling right now. Nashville increased their intensity towards the end of the game, but Dan Vladar came up big for Calgary as he went on to secure his sixth win of the season. The Flames prevent more embarrassment and give their fans something to cheer about tonight.
Huberdeau appears to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch
Huberdeau would score his 10th goal of the season and has three goals in his last five games. He now has 19 points on the season, and currently stands as the team’s leader in both categories.
While it’s a far cry from his past production, Huberdeau putting up points is always encouraging. It’s safe to say he’ll never play up to his contract with the Flames, but when he can contribute in key moments such as today, it’s certainly better than nothing.
Flames head back home for five-game homestand
With the Flames ending their tough road trip on a high note, the team will be heading back home for a five-game homestand until the holiday break. The Flames have been loving home cooking, and currently have a 10-3-1 record at the Saddledome this season. This stretch certainly won’t be easy as they’ll be hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers to kick off the homestand, followed by Boston, Ottawa and Chicago.
It’ll be a great test to see if the Flames can continue their strong play at home so they can create somewhat of a positive vibe around the team heading into the holidays. The Flames head right back into action Thursday where they’ll host the Lightning beginning at 7PM Mountain Time.
