Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames have officially broken a franchise record with their scoring struggles

After tonight’s 6-2 loss versus the Dallas Stars, the Calgary Flames have officially broken a franchise record that stems all the way from 2005. The Flames have now gone 25 straight games scoring three goals or less, a stat no team would like to have. Calgary tied the record after last Thursday’s overtime loss against the St. Louis Blues.

Scoring has been a big issue for this team. As of right now, no player on the Flames is projected to put up more than 50 points to finish the season.

While it’s not entirely surprising since the team is in a rebuild, the scoring struggles have resulted in a mediocre product hitting the ice. Let’s face it: other than their comeback victories, the Flames this year have been quite the snooze fest to watch.

Goaltending couldn’t save them tonight

The story for the Flames this season has been their strong goaltending. However, in tonight’s loss, Dustin Wolf struggled mightily between the pipes. He made 22 saves on 28 shots, allowing six goals against and recording a 0.786 save percentage. Ouch.

While tonight wasn’t entirely on Wolf, it just comes to show what happens when teams depend too much on their goaltending for wins, which is what the Flames have been doing.

Goalies can’t bail you out every game, and they’ll certainly face their share of struggles. It’s up to the team to decide how bad they want the win and to perform accordingly. For the sake of their fans and the team, we hope the Flames can find a quick way out of this scoring rut, right after they just made history.

The Flames’ road struggles also continue

It’s been the tale of two seasons. The Flames have struggled on the road but have performed quite well at home. The contrast is quite surprising and if it was up to Flames fans, the team would be playing the rest of the season at the Dome.

The Flames are set to travel to Nashville next, where they’ll be taking on the Predators, a team that has also had their share of scoring struggles this season. If there’s one game where the Flames should aim to end their unwanted record, it should be that one.

That’s because if the Flames remain in this scoring slump for two more games, the team will officially make NHL history by setting a league record for doing such a thing. Yikes!
