Saginaw Spirit defender and top Calgary Flames prospect Zayne Parekh has been suspended one game following his match penalty against the Windsor Spitfires on November 27th. He’ll be serving his suspension on Saturday and will miss the Spirit’s matchup against the Brampton Steelheads.
This isn’t the first time a suspension has been in the cards for Parekh this season. About a month ago, he had an altercation with a fan after being ejected from a game against the Soo Greyhounds. A lengthy suspension could’ve been the result of this, but Parekh was later cleared of any punishments after the OHL found no conclusive evidence against him.
Parekh’s growth has been encouraging despite his feisty play
Suspension aside, Parekh’s development has been right on track where Flames fans have wanted it to be. in 21 games with the Spirit so far, Parekh has eight goals and 29 points from the blueline.
It seems like Parekh has an additional feisty attitude to his game which could be due to maturity. As he makes his journey towards his pro career, situations like these usually get resolved as players age. His passion for the game is undoubtedly high and Flames fans are just counting down the days before he can suit up for them. Suspensions like these are meant to serve as lessons on when not to take certain plays too far.
